New York University Tisch School of the Arts 

Film & TV Industry Essentials

The program consisted of 5 courses: The Fundamentals of Film, The Fundamentals of TV, From Script to Wrap, Post-Production & the Production Business, and Marketing & Distribution. The program also covered the various roles within the industry, including acting, casting, producing, directing, screenwriting, editing, costume design, cinematography, and production design. Also learned about the distribution models like OTT. Finally, I completed a number of hands-on assignments, including analyzing past motion pictures, creating a still images film, storyboarding a short film concept, writing two short film scripts, a location scouting assignment, creating a shot list, creating/editing a short film I voice-acted in using Final Cut Pro, and creating an electronic press kit for the short film that included a poster, trailer and synopsis. Also learned the mechanics of sound, scoring, and visual effects (including animation), film theory and genres, and business concepts (finance, studio management, talent representation, and clearance and copyright). Certificate received June 28, 2024.

University of London Royal Central School of Speech & Drama

Discover Acting 

The course consisted of learning about what makes certain acting choices effective, understanding what makes me unique as an actor, analyzing the work of professional actors (including Daniel Kaluuya) and the techniques they use, various acting techniques (including the Stella Adler Technique and Method Acting), the relationship between body, voice, and mind, building awareness of my body, physical and vocal habits, alignment and breath, establishing given circumstances, and text/script analysis (including objectives, caps, tactics, and physical externals to consider). Also performed a monologue (approx. 45 seconds) and reflected upon performance. Certificate received July 13, 2024. The course was taught by James Palm.

Finding Your Professional Voice: Confidence & Impact

The course consisted of exercises to build awareness and knowledge of the voice, how the voice is made in the body, understanding what can get in the way of the voice working at an optimal level, reducing unnecessary tension in the body, the role of the body in speaking, alignment, breath, projection, understanding my audience, message and intention, techniques to help the audience connect to my message, body language, articulation, pitch, pace, pausing, and using emphasis for impact. Certificate received August 5, 2024. The course was taught by Emmy Broomfield.

Cinematography Fundamentals

The course consisted of 5 main modules: Composition (and Depth), Shot (Shot Sizes and their Functions, Vision, and Sensibility), Lighting (and Shadow), Movement (the Moving Camera), and Style (including Design and Color). The course also covered Production Audio Basics and Basic Editing in Adobe Premiere. The course included 5 films to watch/study that were relevant to the materials being studied. Completed a number of hands on-assignments as well, including selecting an intriguing location and recording a series of shots that communicated my thoughts and feelings about the space, doing a shot by shot scene analysis of a short scene (included shot size, angle, camera move), creating three lighting setups (available, artificial, and mixed lighting) and recording shots with and without camera motion, and moving a character through space by recording a short story. For the final project, I created a 1-3 minute cinematography reel which included my best work from throughout the course. Key principles I learned from the hands-on assignments included: composition, exposures, visual storytelling, establishing technical workflow, lighting in various circumstances and for various moods, camerawork, moving camera, moving subject, continuity of screen direction and actions, and editing. Certificate received September 2, 2024. The course instructor was Anthony Jannelli.
